Why I love accounting

Just the thought of accounting prompts a feeling of disgust in most people.

I've never understood why.

The most common response I hear from people is that they hate math. To which I always respond, if you can do fourth grade math—addition and subtraction—you can do accounting!

The biggest reason I love accounting is how it forces you to deal with nuance.

Every detail matters and influences the outcome. (Kind of like life, right?)

Sometimes things are black and white. Other times, very gray.

Often, there are multiple ways you can do something.

At times, there's only one way to get it done—or it's wrong.

This nuance, though challenging at times, keeps you sharp and tests your ability to find solutions no matter how great the obstacle is.

Add an accounting niche like tax, and you’re helping people navigate one of the most important aspects of their lives. That’s incredibly rewarding.

It's a great career. I strongly recommend it.
